Tenants in single and multi-family properties can now purchase a renters insurance policy with Roost Renters Insurance through their Online Portal. Tenants are not required to purchase a policy with Roost, but we’ve provided a simple and convenient way to purchase renters insurance if they don’t already have a policy.
Roost Renters Insurance is managed separately from AppFolio, so neither you or tenants will see related charges post to their AppFolio accounts. Tenants manage and get support for their policy outside of AppFolio. See the FAQs for more information.

How much does renters insurance cost for tenants?
The cost of Renters Insurance depends on the amount of coverage chosen by the tenant and their location. Since prices may differ based on these variables, we encourage tenants to get a custom quote (which only takes a a few clicks) from their Online Portal, as opposed to suggesting price ranges here.
Policies will be billed directly to the tenant separately from AppFolio and will not appear on their tenant ledger.

How does an insurance payment appear on a tenant’s credit card statement?

This is what your tenants see when they purchase a policy from Roost Renters Insurance through their Online Portal.
Upon logging into their Online Portal, the tenant will see a new Roost Renters Insurance section on the home page. Clicking Learn More pulls up FAQs about Roost Renters Insurance. Clicking Purchase Renters Insurance begins the buying flow.
On step one, they’ll add their desired Coverage Start Date, Contents Limit (options vary by state) and additional coverage options (options vary by state). Clicking Get Quote will estimate what their monthly payments will be.
Below, their name, address, phone number (editable) and email address (not editable) are automatically populated using information in their portal. Their email address is their portal login email and cannot be changed. Clicking Continue brings them to the second step.
On step two, tenants see their first payment and remaining installment amounts. They’ll enter their credit card information and billing address where payments are automatically billed. They can click Continue, or go back to change their coverage options.
On step three, tenants review their coverage selections, payment schedule, payment information, and agree to Roost Renters Insurance Disclosures.
Clicking Buy Policy will bring them to a success page, or they can go back to change their payment information, or continue to go back and change other information.
The success page displays all of their policy details and confirms a payment has been processed for the disclosed amount. They receive the confirmation email providing links to their policy documents that they can then send to you as proof of insurance.
The Roost Renters Insurance box on the home page in their Online Portal now displays a link to their self-service portal at msimga.com.
